Unboxing a Bermuda Shorts Bundle After a Long Delay (50 Units)

18 July 2025

Vintage hawaiian shorts

This post documents the initial purchase and eventual unboxing of a bundle of Bermuda-style shorts bought as part of my vintage clothing resale business.

The purpose here is to record what was ordered, what eventually arrived, and what stood out at the start — not to draw conclusions about performance or profitability yet.

The Purchase

For this batch, I bought 50 vintage Bermuda-style shorts.

The order was placed on 26 February 2025 as a pre-order, with delivery originally expected between 1–15 May. The final cost for the bundle was £50 delivered, giving a unit cost of £1 per item.

This purchase was made alongside several other bundles as part of a broader sourcing run across multiple vintage clothing categories.

Delivery Delay

Unlike other orders placed at the same time, this bundle was delayed repeatedly.

Delivery dates were pushed back multiple times, often with notifications suggesting delivery would happen “the next day,” only for that to change again.

The bundle eventually arrived in mid-July, several months later than originally expected.

This delay became part of the experiment itself, as it affected:

  • seasonality
  • listing timing
  • whether the category was still relevant by the time stock arrived

Unboxing & First Impressions

The video above shows the unboxing in full after the delayed delivery.

At this stage, I was mainly focused on:

  • overall condition across the bundle
  • brand and style variation
  • whether items were still suitable for listing given the time of year
  • how usable the stock was after the delay

This unboxing was about assessing reality rather than expectations.

What I Was Watching

Before ordering, I looked at sold listings on eBay and saw similar shorts selling across a range of prices, typically between £10 and £25, depending on condition and style.

However, by the time the stock arrived, the original assumptions around timing and demand needed to be reassessed.

The key things I was watching were:

  • whether the delay affected sell-through
  • whether pricing assumptions still held
  • whether this category made sense given the revised timing

Any decisions beyond that would depend on what happened after listing.

Next Steps

At the time of writing, the shorts were being assessed and prepared for listing.

Any meaningful updates — including sales performance, pricing changes, or decisions about whether this type of purchase is worth repeating — will be documented in separate posts rather than added here.

Closing

This post records the starting point for this Bermuda shorts batch, including the impact of a prolonged delivery delay.

What happens next will determine whether this category — and this type of sourcing arrangement — makes sense to continue.

This post documents the initial purchase and unboxing of this batch. Updates are published separately as they happen.
