This post documents the initial purchase and unboxing of a basketball shorts bundle bought as part of my vintage clothing resale business.
The aim here is to record what was purchased, what turned up, and what I was paying attention to at the start — not to draw conclusions about results or profitability yet.
The Purchase
For this batch, I bought a bundle of 100 vintage basketball shorts.
The order was placed on 2 March 2025 as a pre-order, with delivery expected between 1–15 May. The bundle was originally listed at £240, reduced to £100, and then further discounted, bringing the final cost to £75 delivered.
That works out at a unit cost of £0.75 per item.
At the time of purchase, this felt like a reasonable way to test whether basketball shorts were worth adding as a regular category.
Unboxing & First Impressions
The delivery arrived on 23 April 2025, and the video above shows the unboxing in full.
At this stage, I was mainly focused on:
- overall condition across the bundle
- consistency between items
- brand and style variation
- how much work would be required before listing
This unboxing was about assessing usability rather than judging outcomes.
What I Was Watching
Before buying, I looked at sold listings on eBay and saw basketball shorts selling in a range of prices, typically between £7 and £20, depending on brand, condition, and style.
At the same time, I was aware that availability could increase if multiple buyers had ordered similar bundles. That made pricing and sell-through something to monitor rather than assume.
The initial plan was to:
- list items individually
- price competitively based on condition and demand at the time of listing
- remain flexible rather than lock into a fixed pricing strategy
Any decisions beyond that would depend on what actually happened after listing.
Next Steps
At the time of writing, the shorts were being washed and prepared for listing.
Any meaningful updates — including sales performance, pricing changes, or decisions about whether to repeat this type of purchase — will be documented in separate posts rather than added here.
Closing
This post records the starting point for this basketball shorts batch.
What happens next will determine whether this category and sourcing approach make sense to continue.
